If you’ve taken a test drive in one of the new 2018 Jeep® Wranglers at Kevin’s Royal Auto, or one of the other capable SUVs on our lot, you may have developed an interest in off-roading. Off-roading is an exciting way to explore the outdoors and enjoy the power of a capable car. If you’re ready to go off the beaten path for the first time, use these off-roading tips to stay safe and confident along the way.
Learn About Your Vehicle
Not only should you read the owner’s manual to learn about features and performance specs, but you should also visually examine your vehicle before going out. Get a good feel for its width and its ground clearance to know what types of terrains and spaces it can handle.
You might be tempted to slow down when passing over mud or other daunting sections of terrain, but don’t. The momentum of a steady pace is usually just what you need to make it across. Likewise, if you get stuck, don’t floor it. Try reversing and gently accelerating forward to rock yourself out of a sticky situation.
Don’t Go Alone
When you’re heading out to take on strange terrains in the middle of nowhere, you don’t want to risk getting stuck alone without cell phone service. Take a friend with you who can help you in case you get stuck or injured. In the same vein, you should always tell someone back home where you plan to go in case you do need help and have no way of reaching out.
If you need a new vehicle for your off-roading adventures, stop by Kevin’s Royal Auto.
